WinSave Wanker Update
I'm currently using a hosting provider named WinSave. They charge me $8 a month, and I actually feel like I'm getting ripped off. I've been trying to switch to a company that doesn't use Fisher Price servers, but am meeting with some resistance. So I've decided to keep you posted on my correspondence with this delightful company.First I called them to ask them to transer my domain, and they said I had to fax them a form, along with a photo ID. So I did this, making sure to include a copy of my driver's license. After a few weeks, nothing had happened, so I sent them an email. The following exchanged ensued:
WinSave -
I faxed a request to modify this domain's WHOIS record several weeks ago and have received no response. Please apprise me of the status ASAP.

Dear Robert
Thank you for contacting WinSave Technical Support. The fax to update the Registrant and Administrative contact information was voided. The fax was missing some authentication information. An e mail was sent to inform you of this [I never received said email - RK], but unfortunately there has been no communication since. Please re-fax document and include an ID or utility bill for Kroese, Rob. If there are any further issues we can be of assistance with, or if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us anytime. For "Frequently Asked Questions" visit, http://support.winsave.com.
Sincerely,

WinSave,
Yeah, how about if I send it a THIRD time. Because that will probably work.

I also tried to call them, but they're on Eastern Lazy Time, so there was no answer. I'll let you know what happens next.

lol... Man, do I feel for you. I know enough people that have had the same experience to wonder if ANYONE provides good service ANYWHERE.
PS: What's wrong with Fisher Price Servers? Aren't they the ones that make the voting machine for Florida?
Me again. I just went to their website where they have that saying:
"See what you get"
Boy, they gave that phrase a whole new meaning...
That's company policy, man. They let you talk to a machine with circular programming long enough that you just decide to give up to avoid developing seizures.
All internet companies are like that. Their central offices are all located in the fifth or sixth circle of Hell.
Should I whack them? :)
Goodness that sounds terrible! I've been using blue host and love them. And they are damn quick in responses. Good luck and perhaps you'll have a new host by the time my youngest finishes med school.
No need to wack them just yet. I'll let you know.
BTW, I normally use a company called HostDepot. They are a little more expensive, but they are very good. When I first set up this site I was just looking for the cheapest possible hosting package. So now I'm stuck in domain transfer hell because I didn't want to pay an extra $2 a month. Aarrgh.
The word verification string I am given is "gvyfe."
gvyfe - guh-VIFE (v): To complain about something to everyone in the vain hope that merely communicating your frustration will somehow improve the situation.
AAAAAAAGGGGGGGGH! Do you have any hair left? Did you pull it all out? I've had a lot of experiences like that. Why do they call it customer service anyway?
Here via my hubby Just Tom.
Fun blog. You have a great sense of humor!
Cindra - Thanks for stopping by. And I swear it's a coincidence that the hapless vegan in my previous post was named Tom. I just pulled that name out of the air. Your husband's not a hapless vegan, is he?
No, he is a clumsy carnivore. I was vegan for a few years, but was really grumpy.
And it did remind us of the southpark episode we watched last night...it was funny. Not all of them are though...at least to me.
Your blog is hilarious. I have a stomach ache from laughing. And Tom is over there on his computer making all sorts of weird snorty noises as he writes you...oh, boy.
Nice to meet you!
Does your fax machine have a repeat send button? I think you need to up the ante a little. Basically, you need to find a way to be so annoying that it is easier to help you than to give you the run around. For now, I'd suggest repeating the fax every day.
I just love customer service!
Thanks for the kind words, everybody.
I'm toying with the idea of printing out a sheet that has "HEY! READ YOUR FREAKING FAX!" in 72 point bold font and faxing that over as a cover page.
rvegbdw - Ruh - VEG - buh -dew (v): To renounce veganism.
this is what happens... you raise a blogkid, you try to do right by them, and what do you get in return? they go off to parts unknown to enjoy success and popularity and never so much as call home to say they're okay or ask for money. not that we'd give 'em any if they did.
this was a hilarious post, sir... now i understand why you haven't been hanging out at the park eating corndogs over the past couple of days. xox
Come on, it's not that bad, neva. Just yesterday I came by to drop off my laundry.
