I'm a Homemaker!
For those of you who don't believe I'm really building a house, here's some proof. Almost none of the photos have been doctored in any way. Click on the pic for a larger version.

A view of our property from the street. That's the barn to the right and Opa's house to the left. Our house is way back behind Opa's house.

Opa's house, from the driveway.

Further down the driveway. Our house is behind the trampoline and the P.O.S. Ford.

A closer look at our house. Our bedrooms are in the part that looks like a garage. Yes, that's a faux garage door. Convincing, no? That's why our cars are outside.

The addition site.

Front view. The left half is already built.

First floor plan.

2nd floor plan.

Maddie "helping."

Me and the boss.

I included this one because of the UFO in the distance.

yow! and wow! and... um... zow! okay... now that i know you're NOT a big fat liar, i'm impressed. i really am.
nice property -- lovely plans -- and, since you're a "homemaker" in the most technical definition of the word, i suppose we won't be calling you Mr. Mom anytime, soon. (unless you show us a good shot of you in the kitchen and/or folding laundry. then you're on your own, bub.)
in all seriousness... i wish you the best of luck with your new home, my friend. may those walls eventually surround you and keep you and your wonderful family warm and happy. and not in *any* kind of pain and/or misery as you find yourself digging out of the rubble because you screwed up on the framing. xox
Wow! I can't believe you're actually building that yourself. I didn't realize you actually had a large part done, I was imagining a big lot with a small hole and 4 large tents on the premises (with a laptop and wireless connection of course).
Very impressive!
Have a wonderful Christmas
I can't believe it. They actually exist!
No, not UFOs. You and your family.
Merry and Happy in your cool new digs, RK.
Cute kiddos!
Dude, cute kids, how much did you have to pay for 'em?
Nice house in the making.
Carry on!
How nice of the aliens to return Diesel in time for Chrismukkah.
That's so exciting! You don't even sound stressed.
While you detected an unidentified flying object in the last photo I detected an unidentified smiling object.
Is that your other boss?
One guy digging ... two people telling him where to did. Sounds like where I work.
Neva - Don't worry, there is a swarm of building inspectors buzzing about, just waiting for me to make a mistake.
Anita - Yep, I'm doing it myself... with a lot of help. All I'm doing in those pix is trenching the septic lines. I had somebody else dig all the footings for the foundation.
Al - Yes, they exist, as hard as it is to believe. New "digs". Heh.
Robin - Thanks! Half of their DNA is mine!
Logophile - I'll let you know when I'm done paying.
Anonymous - Wasn't it?
Cindra - I built the first part of the house while working full time. This should be a piece of cake.
Dan - You work for Cal Trans?
Diesel, this new look is fabulous! Very professional. Merry Christmas to you and the family, I look forward to hearing stories of Santa's visit. The new house rocks, I'm jealous!
Nice pics, and nice plans.
One question and one statement.
Question: Why did you build the part of your house without the front door first?
Statement: You say that's the barn over to the right. But I know the truth.
Those are the slave's quarters.
Your kids are adorable! :)
Holy cow, you're building it yourself? VERY impressive! I think you are a Jedi now.
This is a Cindra spam. Happy Holidays! And please do go wish mine hubby a happy happy jolly jolly. Thanks!
I see the Mothership is keeping an eye on you.
Well, I am officially impressed now that I see the photos. Very nice. Good luck on the journey. Cute kiddies by the way. I subscribe to Maddie's tool of measurement as well which is why I'm not always exactly precise.
Happy Holidays.
PS: Exactly what animal am I in the blogroll?
Kat - Thanks. I'm not really a design guy, but this look just kind of came together for me.
Gregory - Jehovah's Witnesses. I thought we covered that. And technically no, because they keep running away.
Candace - Aren't they great? I vacillate between Jedi and Sith.
Cindra - Will do.
G - I think she's demonstrating a cubit. Or maybe a span. Man, I'm never going to get this ark built. And if I told you which animal you are, I'd have to kill you. Or at least have you spayed.
Wow!!! Good luck on that house, Mr. Mom. Now that you're loafing, err, I mean, unemployed, err, I mean, purposely a homemaker, I'm sure you'll do a great job. So are you planning on paying the kids for the child labor or what? (smile)
Pavel - I plan to keep feeding them, yes. They work harder on a full stomache.
This is so neat. I hope you post more pictures as you go along. We have an Opa too.
I love this post! When my mom and dad built their dream house I was a bit smaller that your daughter. But there are many pictures of me "helping out" - mostly wearing a wonder woman costume. (Those were the days I say!) Oddly enough we lived in the garage as well until the rest of the house was built. This fact seems to creep some people out but - the inside was carpeted and air conditioned with a full kitchen and anything else you could want in temporary housing. :)
I love the pictures! can't wait to see the progress!
After some very close inspection (maybe too close), the UFO appears to be nothing more than a chocolate Moon Pie (mocha---hence the light brown coloring). If it comes around again, I suggest you eat it, Diesel. As they say here in our county, "M. R. good. O. S. A. R."
Thanks, Goldennib. I plan to post more updates as soon as it stops raining. :(
CJ - For a while my plan was to move into the barn. That idea didn't fly. That is where my office is located, though. When people asked my daughter what I did, she would tell them that I worked in a barn.
Gawpo - Mmmmm. Unidentified Yummy Object. O.S.A.R. good.
Oh geez. Finally the real reason for the blog emerges ... a public venue in which you can brag "Tim the Tool Man" style about the house you're building. TROY VAN DELLEN -- WHERE ARE YOU??!!
Not Karen - You know you love it.
